A Faded Rose

by Lina Rehal

Pressed between the pages
of her favorite book of poems,
she keeps a rose from long ago.
Its delicate red petals,
once soft and smooth,
now crumbled in wax paper.
A souvenir of an event she can't recall.
Was it a birthday? An anniversary?
Perhaps her senior prom?
Like the once vibrant color
of the flower she holds so dear,
her memory has faded with time.
She saves it with the withered flakes,
curshed between the pages
of her favorite book.

First Things First

I have to start somewhere, so here it goes.

Basically, I wanted a blog because everyone else has one. I already have a website, but I thought I needed a blog to enhance my life online. It will take me a while to get the hang of this blogging thing and to figure out what to put on it.

I'll start with telling you that I'm a writer. Sweet Violets will be about writing and other things I like to do. (I will often veer off the subject.) I'll post some poetry, scrapbooking ideas, travel tips and whatever comes to mind. I like restaurants, Disneyworld, and taking pictures. I'll share photos if they don't take forever to add. I write mostly non-fiction, personal essays, a lot of nostalgia, and poetry when the mood strikes me.

I'm currently working on a book about growing up in the 1950s to 1960s, a great time to remember.
